Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), in cooperation with Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Together with 5 Thai Digital Content Associations including Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA), Digital Content Association of Thai (DCAT), E-Learning Association of Thailand (e-LAT), Thai Animation & Computer Graphics Association (TACGA) and Bangkok ACM SIGGRAPH (BASA), organize the grand event of the year, the Digital Content Expo called “BIDC 2017”, highlighting capability showcase, driving Thai digital content to ASEAN digital content industry hub, supporting quality development of digital entrepreneurs, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to meet and match with local and international business partners, stimulating economic growth in line with the Government policy “Thailand 4.0”, meet world-class digital experts in the event.
Chatchai Khunpitiluck Vice President of Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), disclosed “DEPA plays a key role in promoting and supporting digital technology industry including digital content industry in order to develop digital industry and innovation relevant to the policy Thailand 4.0 and National Agenda associated with digital development for economy and society as well as personnel, laws & regulations and intellectual property protection for Thai digital content industry which divided into 2 main categories; animation and game. According to the digital content market survey in 2015, Thai digital content industry aggregate market over the value of 12.000 billion Baht. In terms of international market, Thai entrepreneurs are well-known as talented and creative production team. We export our content with total value of 1.500 billion Baht. In 2016, Thai animation market is expected to grow up 5.0% and 22.3% for game market’s growth rate in 2017.
Due to the aforementioned factors, DEPA, as the main organization with roles and missions to promote and support digital content industry, has recently announced the grand event “Bangkok International Digital Content Festival 2017” under the concept of “Digital Wonderland: the wonder of digital content”, the greatest digital content exhibition & conference incorporating entrepreneurs in the industry to showcase capabilities of Thai entrepreneurs, promote Thailand to be ASEAN digital hub and embrace business opportunities for animation, game, e-Learning, computer graphic and visual effect. Unlike the past 3 years, BIDC2017 features B2B approach in order to achieve the target in promoting Thai digital content industry to global market at full course with concrete results, contributing to growth of the overall industry especially export market.
Vanaporn Ketudat, Deputy Director General Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, said “Business Matching becomes a highlight in the “Bangkok International Digital Content Festival 2017” providing opportunity for newcomer entrepreneurs to partner with over 40 leading international companies from USA, Canada, England, France, New Zealand, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, China and Korea such as CARTOON NETWORK STUDIO from USA, CCTV ANIMATION CO from China, MIXI, INC (XFLAG STUDIO) from Japan and 60 local companies in Thailand attending the activities and event this year. For this event is well supported by The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) has invited Japanese speakers from TV Tokyo Communications Corporation to attend the seminar. The business matching serves as a key mechanism to fuel growth on a continual and sustainable basis. The BIDC 2016 recorded 523 successful business matches with business value of 780 million Baht. The BIDC 2017 is expected to support growth of the overall digital content business with expected 800 million Baht business value.
Tidarat Thanapakpawin, President of Thai Game Software Industry Association (TGA) and representative for the Association Organizers, unveiled “The Bangkok International Digital Content Festival 2017 as a result of the collaboration between Public and Private Agencies to promote Thailand to achieve the ASEAN’s digital content hub and the target to expand to global arena along with the ongoing growth of digital industry. The Association Organizers play a key role in rendering business, commercial and product development supports for members, building local and international business network and intermediary role in connecting public sector and private entrepreneurs to steer growth of Thai digital content industry following the national policy to drive digital industry as part of the economic stimulus package.
Weerasak Kowsurat, Chairman of the Working Committee for Bangkok Entertainment Fest 2017 and Chairman of the Board, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), disclosed “The Bangkok International Digital Content Festival 2017,” an event of Bangkok Entertainment Fest 2017, features the capability and competency showcase of Thailand’s digital content industry acknowledging foreigners and inviting them to join business with Thai entrepreneurs. TCEB, as the Body leading and organizing national convention and exhibition as well as developing mega event for the country, realizes that the cooperation between public and private sector significantly supports industry’s growth. According to the survey on economic result of the events under Bangkok Entertainment Fest conducted by TCEB last year, 3.0 billion Baht revenue was generated with 540,000 attendances, 20,000 jobs created, contributing to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 3.3 billion Baht and adding 980 million Baht tax revenue for the Government throughout the 2 weeks of event period.
